Company History
In 1964, Merle Holmes and George Schmidt purchased a North American Van Lines agency in the San Jose area of California. Not far away in Silicon Valley, the mainframe computer industry—founded in garages, universities, and business offices—was finding its footing.
As these computer companies grew larger, they found a need for a reliable, white-glove delivery company to transport their equipment. George and Merle responded. They configured air-ride trailers with pads, straps, and bars, and they selected excellent drivers to deliver the equipment safely.
As their delivery business grew, George and Merle changed the name of their company to Meridian Worldwide Transportation Group and expanded its scope to accommodate international logistics service.
Since that time, Meridian has grown into a recognized leader in worldwide third-party logistics, serving over 70 countries around the globe, managing over $2 billion in delivery product each year, innovating delivery and warehouse systems, and continuing to meet business’ most ambitious logistics goals.
